Two weeks ago, we didn’t just win a seat, we started a pro-worker, student-centered movement. After knocking on thousands of doors and chatting with thousands of people at the polls, we earned a resounding victory! I earned 9,415 votes, more than double that of my closest opponent, and I appreciate every one of them.
This is revolutionary for the DPS community. For the first time in years, we have the opportunity to align our district’s policies with the actual needs of the people who keep our schools running. Like we said at the polls, teacher working conditions are students’ learning conditions!
Even better news? The entire Durham Association of Educators slate won seats, meaning the DPS school board now has a pro-union majority to fight for students and staff! We can’t wait to get to work for all of Durham, not just those who voted for us. I hope you continue to feel like we earned your support.
All this to say, ORGANIZING WORKS! I am so grateful to be a part of a community that is willing to throw down when it matters. This victory belongs to you.
