About Nadeen

I’m running for Durham School Board because we can do better—and because our children can’t wait.

How Public Education Shaped My Life

Public school gave me:

  • English and literacy that let me navigate systems my parents couldn’t
  • Teachers who took my family’s story seriously and believed I belonged in every classroom
  • The chance to build friendships across differences—race, language, class, immigration status
  • The confidence to stand up, speak out, and organize my community

I know how it feels to be treated as an outsider, and I don’t wish that for any child or parent at DPS.  We should powerfully say and take action so that our schools say, clearly and consistently, “You belong here.”

That’s the kind of school system I want for every child in Durham.

My Work in Community and Justice

Across the South and here in Durham, I’ve spent my adult life working alongside farmworkers, students, and grassroots organizations in management and shared leadership positions:

  • Press On – I am the Co-Executive Director and currently direct Human Resources and Finance at Press On, a Southern media and movement organization. I build and manage our budget, grassroots fundraising, payments and book keeping, and every aspect of human resources.
  • Southern Vision Alliance – As the Associate Director I was in charge of operations, finance, and human resources.
  • El Centro Hispano-I worked as the youth organizer with Jóvenes Líderes en Acción and became the Director of Youth and Family programs and Operations Manager where I served on the management team.
  • Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) – For 10 years, I worked as the Advocacy and Organizing Director and a Program Director to bring students and farmworkers together to fight for justice. I led campaigns for in-state tuition and better living and working conditions for farmworkers.

I helped co-found Mothers* for Ceasefire, a group of parents and caregivers calling for an end to violence and for policies rooted in human dignity. As a Palestinian and as a wife to a Jewish person, I believe that our liberation is connected. We have had thousands of people attend our events throughout Durham and beyond. Our participants come from every walk of life but together we fight for justice. That same commitment to safety, justice, and collaboration is what I bring to school board work.
